Resort Condominiums International, more commonly known as RCI, is the largest timeshare exchange company in the industry and, as such, is one of the strongest brand names globally associated with timeshare ownership. However, because RCI is not a vacation ownership resort or club in its own right, it does not own inventory and, therefore, cannot offer RCI timeshare resales as a product on the secondary market.
Where confusion often enters the discussion is in the role RCI plays in the use of the time-share product. Because of the ways timeshares have been sold in the past by resorts, some timeshare sellers think they can sell an RCI timeshare resale when, in actual fact, the seller owns a timeshare at a resort which is only affiliated with RCI and is available for vacations within the RCI exchange network.
If you think you own RCI timeshares and this all seems a bit confusing, you are not alone. Please give us a call on 800-640-6886 or fill out our inquiry form and we can help sort it out for you.
RCI – It’s About Exchange
While RCI is not itself a timeshare developer or destination resort, it is a timeshare exchange company that works with a network of affiliated timeshare resorts to offer a wider variety of vacation experiences to timeshare owners beyond their home resort.
With about 4,500 resorts worldwide affiliated within the RCI network across 100 countries, and many of those resorts offering timeshare weeks for sale on the resale market, it’s no wonder that some buyers think they are buying RCI timeshare resales when they are actually purchasing a week of timeshare ownership at a specific resort.
The Keys To RCI Membership
Owners can enroll into a membership with RCI (usually one, five or ten years in length) which requires a membership fee to belong to the program. After becoming a member, the owner can deposit the use of their week into the pool of inventory that RCI manages and choose a week at a different resort at which to vacation – with an additional fee incurred when performing an exchange through RCI's services. The only prerequisite to join is that owners must own timeshare at an RCI-affiliated resort.
RCI membership categories are offered as follows:
RCI Weeks – which is the traditional week-for-week exchange service
RCI Points – for owners who have converted their week into RCI Points, or received RCI Points, through their home resort
RCI Platinum – for owners who want to upgrade from the Weeks or Points program to enjoy added travel benefits
Once enrolled into a program, an RCI member can access other services which are exclusively available to members.
RCI Programs such as:
RCI Points Partner – using a portion of your points for discounted travel products such as airfare and rental cars
Instant Exchange – last minute bargain vacations for just 9,000 points
Extra Vacations – additional week-long vacations starting at $399/week
Last Call Vacations – discounted vacations under $300 per week
RCI Cruise Exchange – using points toward the purchase of a cruise
RCI Travel – your own travel concierge service
