At the southern end of the peninsula is an enormous visitor center. It can be the first stop on the vacation tour as it gets the visitor organized to the surroundings. The Long Beach Boardwalk is nearly a mile in length and offers great views of the water and the famous North Head Lighthouse. The sand dunes along the walk are truly amazing, and their shape is always shifting.

Great Biking and Festivals

The Discovery Trail is paved, and it's a hit with bikers. It ends at the northern tip of the peninsula and is lined with interpretive displays and sculptures. All along the western beaches, access points known as beach approaches are clearly marked. The approaches also have signs clearly marked with the latest weather and wind warnings.

Several beach festivals are scheduled annually. These include kite contests, music and dance, and clamming. Bring the bucket and shovels and dig for the famed geoduck clam, the largest shore clam in the world. In spring, enjoy the Mermaid Parade, where mermaids, mermen, landlubbers, and sea creatures of all kind gather to celebrate seashore life and culture.
