Welcome to Westwynd, one of northern Oakland County's newest semi-private golf courses. Adjacent to the extraordinarily stunning Wyndgate Country Club, Westwynd is an extension of its sister course. Eighteen magnificent holes wind around vast elevation changes, natural marsh and wetland areas, and undulating greens making for one of the most scenic and challenging courses anywhere. Naturally, it is a second 18-hole course for members of The Wyndgate, but Westwynd is also open for public play.
White Lake Oaks is a scenic 18-hole, par 70 course. The 196-acre course is a well-manicured, player-friendly layout with front nine open and back nine tight, featuring wetlands and woodlands. Whispering Willows is the longest running city owned golf course in Livonia. The course is known for hole #2, a difficult par 4, rated as one of the 18 hardest holes in greater Detroit. Tough par 3's will also grab your attention as you wind your way through numerous tree-lined holes. Whispering Willows is one of the most popular golf courses in the area. Although it is not a long course, it is a good test for the average golfer with some very challenging par 3's. Whispering Willows supplies the area with a driving range, (both artificial mats and grass tees from which to hit) along with a putting and chipping green. Sylvan Glen Golf Course is operated by the Parks & Recreation Golf Division. It is the mission of the Golf Division to provide a quality recreation experience for area residents and businesses. More than 55,000 rounds of golf per season occur at Sylvan Glen. The Golf Division functions as a full-service operation, providing golf lessons, facility maintenance, mechanical repairs, pro-shop amenities, restaurant/banquet opportunities and course improvements. In the winter season, the golf course also serves as an excellent venue for cross-country skiing and sledding opportunities (based upon weather). To gain access to cross country and the sledding hill, use the south west entrance off Rochester Road. The entrance is on the west side of the main parking lot. Glenhurst is the busiest 18 hole public golf course in the State of Michigan. Hills, valleys and old trees highlight this course. Golfers understand that nothing can take the place of time when it comes to mellowing a golf course, and Glenhurst, like a fine wine, is aged to perfection. No matter where you stop your cart there will always be a friendly old tree close, offering shade from the scorching sun. Blackheath opened in 1998 and was designed and constructed by Kevin Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich's inspiration to develop this style of layout was brought on by a visit to Scotland. On this trip, he learned of the two uique types of layouts that could be offered by this type of topography. He was able to produce a gem in Rochester, MI. There are two types of courses in the birthplace of golf which are heathland and links styles. A heathland course is built from farmland and lies inland from the sea. Links courses on the other hand sit next to the sea. As opposed to a links design with their bumpy fairways and deep bunkers, a heathland course offers gently rolling fairways and flat bunkering.
