RCI, or Resort Condominiums International is the largest exchange company in the timeshare industry.

Resort Condominiums International program works in the following way:

Situation: An owner of an RCI-affiliated timeshare is tired of going to the same timeshare every year and would like to vacation elsewhere and not sell timeshare they own.

Resolution: The owner of the timeshare contacts RCI and purchases a membership (sold in 1, 5, 10 year or lifetime increments). Once a member, the owner "banks" his or her week with RCI, thus giving up the right to use that interval for that year only. In turn, the owner is able to place a request for destinations or specific resorts for a vacation. Based on the availability of RCI's inventory, the owner will be granted one of the desired requests.

Owners of resorts that are based on a points system are also able to exchange in the same manner using the RCI Points exchange program. This system works great for owners of RCI-affiliated resorts such as Wyndham, who use points to vacation instead of a set week.

RCI has more resorts in its network than any other timeshare exchange program. There are approximately 3700 resorts in 100 countries with RCI affiliation and over 3 million members worldwide. The ease of exchange and variety of destinations make RCI a popular choice among timeshare owners.

RCI has developed a rating system for their outstanding resorts within their network.

• The RCI Gold Crown is awarded to resorts that meet or exceed RCI's standard of excellence in a number of different categories.
• The RCI Silver Crown (formerly known as Resort of International Distinction) is awarded to resorts, which meet RCI's standard of excellence, and is rated highly by its guests.
• RCI Hospitality Awards are given to resorts that are rated highly by guests on their hospitality and check in/out procedures. These awards should be taken into consideration when choosing timeshare resales to purchase or when exchanging into timeshares within the RCI network.
