If you want to own a piece of the magic, Disney Vacation Club resales are the most affordable way to get a Disney timeshare. By buying DVC points on the resale market, you can save thousands of dollars while still enjoying most of the benefits of a DVC membership. However, before you take the leap into vacation ownership, it’s important to know the facts. Here’s everything you need to know.
What’s the Disney Vacation Club?

The Disney Vacation Club, or DVC, is Disney’s vacation ownership program. In other words, it’s a timeshare. By joining the DVC, you’re buying an annual allotment of points you can use to book stays at resorts like Old Key West, The Disneyland Hotel, and Aulani.
The Disney Vacation Club has several benefits over booking a traditional stay. For a start, DVC members have priority access to special villas and studios, which are more spacious and luxurious than a typical hotel room. Villas also include full kitchens and in-room laundry, making them perfect for longer stays. You can pack lighter, prepare meals in your room, and host a larger group in a single accommodation.
DVC members also have access to a variety of resorts. The bulk of these are in Orlando, right in the heart of Walt Disney World. However, there are also DVC resorts near Disneyland in Anaheim, as well as several Disney resorts that aren’t tied to a theme park at all. Need a break from Disney? You can use a vacation exchange service like Interval International to trade your DVC points for stays at non-Disney resorts, cruises, and other vacation adventures.
Who Is the DVC For?
Like any timeshare, the DVC isn’t a perfect fit for everyone. However, if you fit the following description, it might fit you like a glass slipper.
Consider joining the DVC if…
- You’re a frequent visitor to the Disney theme parks.
- You want to stay on Disney property.
- You can handle a higher upfront cost and annual dues in exchange for long-term savings.
- You frequently travel to Disney with large groups.
Consider passing if…
- You only rarely visit the Disney parks.
- You’re looking for immediate savings.
- You aren’t comfortable paying annual dues.
In those cases, we recommend renting DVC points instead.
Do You Get Perks if Buying Disney Vacation Club Resale Points?

The Disney Vacation Club is famous for its perks, more so than any other timeshare. Step into any theme park, and you’ll see fans proudly wearing DVC merchandise. You may have even been tempted by a DVC lounge during a particularly hot Florida day. There are many benefits of DVC membership, but not all are available with resale points.
If you buy points on the Disney Vacation Club resale market, you’ll get priority booking privileges at the home resort associated with those points. That means that if you buy points at the Grand Floridian, you’ll be able to book a stay before anyone else. Considering how quickly Disney hotels fill up, this is a pretty good perk.
Once you have your room secured, you get all the benefits of staying on the property. These include…
- Extended Park Hours: Enter thirty minutes early every day. Stay later on select nights.
- Priority Lightning Lane: Guests using a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass can plan passes for their entire stay, up to 7 days in advance of arrival. This makes it much easier to secure passes for popular attractions.
- Advance Dining Reservations: Book dining reservations for the length of your stay up to 60 days before check-in.
- Disney Dining Plan: Guests staying at Disney resorts can pre-pay for food and drinks with a Disney Dining Plan.
- Kids Eat Free: In 2026, kids ages 3-9 get a free Disney Dining Plan when staying at a Disney resort.
- Free Water Park Days: Stays in the summer of 2026 come with free water park admission on your arrival day.
- Go Cashless: Use your MagicBand or MagicBand+ to make purchases around the park.
These benefits are available for anyone staying at a Disney resort, even if you’re renting points.
Additional DVC Perks
Additional DVC benefits require a digital membership card. These are only issued to members who purchase 150 points or more directly from Disney. These include exclusive merchandise, member-only events, access to member lounges, and the ability to purchase the Sorcerer-tier annual pass.
The good news is that Disney Vacation Club resale points stack with points bought from Disney. You won’t lose your DVC perks if you choose to expand your ownership with resale points, making them an excellent option for established DVC members looking to upgrade.
How Much Can I Save Buying Disney Vacation Club Resale Points?

In 2026, a single DVC point costs $235, with a minimum purchase of 100 points. Resale points can vary in price, depending on the home resort. Resale points are cheaper, often 30-50% less, but the exact price depends on the home resort. Starting in 2026, Disney charges a $500 contract administration fee to all resale closings. There aren’t any other upfront fees, though you’ll need to pay closing costs, as is typical for real estate deals.
What’s a Home Resort?
When you buy DVC points, you’re buying a stake in a Disney property. The property you own a stake in is your home resort, and it determines some critical aspects of your membership.
- Priority Booking: You can book stays at your home resort 11 months in advance, compared to 7 months for other resorts. This benefit only applies to points linked to that resort: if you own points from multiple resorts, you can only combine them at the 7-month mark.
- Maintenance Fees: Annual dues are charged per point, based on the resort to which each point is tied.
- Resale Resort Access: The resorts you can access with your DVC points are determined by your home resort. If you own points at one of the original 14 DVC resorts, you can freely visit any of those destinations, but not newer resorts like Riviera or the Villas at Disneyland. If you buy DVC points at a newer resort, you can only use your points at that resort.
- Expiration Dates: DVC points typically expire 50 years after the resort they’re linked to was built (or added to the DVC), regardless of when you buy them. Some resorts, like Old Key West, have already had their contracts extended. Points will begin expiring in 2042, so it remains to be seen what the long-term impact of this will be.
Choosing a Home Resort
When buying on the DVC Resale Market, it’s best to choose a resort you plan to visit regularly. There are some resorts, like Beach Club, that are difficult to book at the 7-month mark, so the priority booking privilege is definitely appealing. Just make sure that you have enough points to book the room you want. If you’re looking to book a villa at Beach Club but only have 100 points tied to that resort, you won’t be able to take advantage of priority booking.
Annual fees also play a major role in picking your home resort. Resorts that are attached to theme parks have a resale price but lower maintenance fees. The opposite is true for independent resorts. These resorts don’t have the infrastructure of the Disney parks to support them and are all near the ocean, so it takes more to keep them up and running. They’re beautiful resorts, however, and definitely worth a visit.
If you’re looking for maximum flexibility, we recommend buying points at one of the original 14 Disney Vacation Club resorts. These include all four Monorail resorts, the Crescent Lake resorts, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and all three non-theme park resorts. Resale contracts at any of these will allow you to book stays at all of them, giving you the most options.
Newer resorts, like Disney’s Riviera and the Villas at Disneyland Hotel, are more restrictive. If you buy a resale contract for these resorts, you can only stay at that resort. This restriction doesn’t apply if you buy these points directly from Disney, and it’s not clear whether it’s permanent or applies only to the newest DVC resorts.
Our Disney Vacation Club Resale Tips
For most people, the best option is to buy resale points at one of the original DVC resorts. They’ve got a much lower purchase price and offer the most flexibility. For most potential Disney Vacation Club owners, this is more than sufficient.
If you’re interested in getting the perks of a direct purchase, buy at least 150 points at a newer resort, then get the rest of your points on the resale market. This will give you the most flexibility while saving tens of thousands of dollars. Just be sure you have enough points to book the kind of stay you want: you won’t be able to use those resale points at newer resorts.
