Punta Sur

Punta Sur is located at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, where the rising sun first touches Mexican soil. This is the highest elevation in the Yucatan and home to an ancient temple honoring the Mayan Moon Goddess. There is a small "caribbean village" with several stores, a snack bar/restaurant and the lighthouse which provides an amazing view of Punta Sur.

In the Mayan culture, Ixchel is the Goddess of the Moon. Known as the wife of the Sun, she is also considered a fertility goddess with great healing powers. For centuries, Mayan women came to Isla Mujeres on yearly pilgrimages to seek her help. The temple was also used to send signals to the mainland. At Punta Sur, you can visit the Mayan temples devoted to Ixchel.

MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte)

Project designed to counteract the effects of climate change on our oceans and reef systems. This museum is a work-in-progress and located just off the coast of Isla Mujeres. This will ultimately consist of 12 galleries containing nearly 1,364 artificial habitats.

Joysxee Floating Bottle Island

Richart Sowa built Joysxee, the Floating Bottle Island by himself, with over 150,000 plastic bottles. Shown on MTV Extreme Cribs and Ripley's Believe It or Not, the island that floats on bottles is an ecological masterpiece. Everything on the island was built with recycled materials from the three story house, to the out door bar. Come tour Joysxee an experience you can only find on Isla Mujeres.

Isla Contoy National Park

 Isla Contoy in the State of Quintana Roo is located at the confluence of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 30 kilometers north of Isla Mujeres. The island is only 8.5-Km in length and has a surface area of 317 hectares. Isla Contoy is considered the most important nesting place of sea birds in all of the Mexican Caribbean. 

Besides its unparalleled beauty, secluded sandy white beaches and lush palm trees, the island boasts more than a hundred and fifty migrating and resident bird species. The most numerous and easy to observe are the frigate, the brown pelican and the double-crested cormorant. Isla Contoy is also an important nesting place for Sea Turtles.

Garrafon Natural Reef Park

Garrafon Natural Reef Park, a terrestrial paradise of reefs and cliffs facing the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean. his natural park is known worldwide for its beauty and incredible recreational activities like snorkeling, kayaking and hiking.

Snorkel through the most wonderful corners of the reef. Just put on a life jacket and snorkel gear to safely float along, looking at the colorful sea life. Spend time chilling out in the 35-meter (100 ft), fresh water, infinity swimming pool and take in the beautiful panoramic view of Cancun Bay.

Zip Line at the top of a 42-foot tower built on the highest part of the park. Imagine the exhilaration as you´re launched from almost 100 feet above sea level. Zooming past the cliffs and the waves will have your heart racing.

El Macado

The Plaza is located at the heart of downtown Isla. You will often find dances, events and celebrations going on in the evenings. Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres National Park

One of the great attractions of Cancun, not only for being perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling, but by setting up a community of diverse and complex marine life is known in this part of the world, comparable in biodiversity a tropical forest. 
Located off the coast of the municipalities of Isla Mujeres and Benito Juárez, this unique marine park is also home to coral reefs, lush and rampant biodiversity, both aquatic and terrestrial. Activities in the area have recorded 40 species of terrestrial flora, mangrove and characteristic examples of coastal dunes, while the aquatic varieties line the 235 species, including algae and seagrasses. 
On the wall there are 35 species of scleractinian corals and 37 soft corals, 83 species of sponges and 43 different mollusks, including chitons, snails, oysters, octopus and squid, 65 varieties of polychaetes (marine worms), 37 crustaceans and 24 echinoderms, such as starfish, sea urchins and sea cucumbers; among other unique forms of marine life.

Contoy National Park

A natural, protected area and animal reserve, uninhabited by humans. Rare species of turtles and hundreds of colonies of birds such as pelicans, cranes, and frigates use the island as their mating and breeding grounds away from all human contact. Visits to Contoy are allowed under certain restrictions and there are several tour operators who offer different excursions to the island.
