* This 6,355-yard course has a par of 71 for men & women. * The first tee, a par five, 495-yard hole, features a deep green tucked into the woods, protected by a large bunker. * The par threes are short and tough with bunkers, 40-foot drop-offs, and 100-foot elevated tees. * The second and seventh tees are short, but tight, par four holes. Hole number two also has a 40-foot drop-off behind the green; if you're not accurate, you'll be playing out of one of the three bunkers. * Hole number seven is a birdie hole, playing only 310 yards. You may lay up or attempt to drive the green, but look out for the trees lining the fairways. After course management style of play, the golfer is rewarded with a true "grip it and rip it" hole on the par-five 16th hole. Get your birdie here because the 18th looms only two holes away. * The "Monster 18", a 455-yard par four, is by far the most difficult hole at The Natural. It plays downhill and is a tight dogleg left, requiring a good drive. The next shot is a long carry over wetlands to an elevated green. * Among many other notable features at The Natural are large, undulating greens, oversized bent grass tees, practice putting green, double-row irrigation, watered roughs, strategically-placed sand traps, and manicured, tree-lined fairways.

Come see why the combination of a great course design (ranked "Third Best New Resort Course" by Golf Digest when it opened in 1988), excellent playing conditions, and low rates has given us the nickname by locals as the "hidden jewel" of Gaylord. The golf course is a favorite challenge for guests vacationing in northern Michigan, as well as for local Gaylord golfers. In fact after playing our course many groups have cancelled tee times at other courses to play Mountain Lakes again that weekend. It offers six holes played through pine forest, another six on alpine terrain with stunning vistas, and six holes are set amid the natural beauty of a river, ponds, and lakes. This course is a "must play" for anyone visiting the Gaylord area. But don't just take our word for it, check out what others have said in our reviews section.
The Michaywe Pines Course features secluded fairways winding through beautiful white birch and pine forests along the AuSable River. Strategic bunkering and a minimum of water hazards add to the character of this unique classic style course. The Pines was the site for the 1991 and 1996 Michigan Amateur Championship tournaments. After 32 years, the Pines course was completely renovated and restored in 2004 by Don Childs, the original architect. Every hole features tee boxes carpeted with bent grass sod and each bunker is deeply shouldered with Bluegrass sod and filled with high quality sand. The positioning of the bunkers allows for a wide approach area into most of the greens. The Pines course is quite female friendly due to the forward tees for the ladies, yet it plays over 7000 yards from the tips requiring strategies from tee to green on every hole.

If you revel in the feeling of having a spectacular golf course almost to yourself, the best course in northern Michigan beckons you. At Black Forest, Tom Doak's first masterpiece of minimalist golf course architecture, each hole is carved through a lush canvas of pine, oak, and maple trees so thick that each hole is an island of isolated natural beauty and you may never see another group the entire round. The dramatic bunkering on Black Forest contrasts with the verdant forest backdrop, and when you arrive at the marvelously contoured greens the challenge has only begun.
