Designer Bill Love, whose credits include the Iron Forge Course at Penn National and Hunting Hawk in Glenn Allen, Virginia, has created an impressive 18-hole course on land that formerly housed the D.C. Department of Corrections facility at Lorton. Paying homage to the early architects of American golf, Love's objective was to let the natural beauty of the property dictate the character of the course. By all accounts he has succeeded with the golf press already describing the course with accolades like "one-of-a-kind" and "visually stunning."
Lake Presidential Golf Club, which opened in 2008, was the first new publicly-playable course to open in the region in a couple of years. The original layout was designed by Greg Norman, with significant alterations made to the final product. Five sets of tees give Lake Presidential a playing length of between 4,970 and 7230 yards. The course is located just off of Route 301 between Bowie and Upper Marlboro.

Greendale Golf Course is an 18-hole regulation course featuring 148 acres of rolling terrain with asphalt cart paths. The course provides a challenging design with tight Bermuda fairways and several water hazards. The 17th hole offers a spectacular view of the entire course and surrounding area. Greendale's facilities include a practice putting green, modern clubhouse with food service, golfing supplies, club and power cart rentals. Private golf lessons and group outing packages are also available. The course and clubhouse are accessible to people with disabilities.
