The El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail begins in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and goes through Texas to Mexico. The trail has a 2,500 mile length. The El Camino Real de Los Tejas was first marked by Spanish settlers more than three hundred years ago as one of the many royal roads that connected the more distant Spanish possessions in the New World with Mexico City, although native Americans used portions of the trail for trading much earlier than that. It was designated as a national historic trail in 2004.
