Blackheath Golf Club

Blackheath opened in 1998 and was designed and constructed by Kevin Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich's inspiration to develop this style of layout was brought on by a visit to Scotland. On this trip, he learned of the two uique types of layouts that could be offered by this type of topography. He was able to produce a gem in Rochester, MI. There are two types of courses in the birthplace of golf which are heathland and links styles. A heathland course is built from farmland and lies inland from the sea. Links courses on the other hand sit next to the sea. As opposed to a links design with their bumpy fairways and deep bunkers, a heathland course offers gently rolling fairways and flat bunkering.
