This is a description of the arrival to The Ridge Resort on a Friday afternoon. The approach is up Goldfields Heights along a steep road, taking you away from the main road into Queenstown, which, incidentally has a public bus service. Entertainment is centred in Queenstown 5 km, best shopping area is in Frankton, near the airport 5 km in the other direction. The manager greets you , reminds you that the staff can arrange activities and visits to places of interest. He hands over 2 sets of keys which give you access to the unit and helps you to orient yourself. From the front door of the chalet you enter a small hallway with a step down into the open plan living area. You immediately become aware of the magnificent view across the Frankton arm of Lake Wakatipu and a mountain backdrop of the Remarkables Range. There is natural light through the glazed dining and cooking area. To one side, there is a sliding door out onto a small deck with gas barbecue and step down through a childproof gate to the Spa Pool (hot tub) which has been cleaned and ready for use. Back inside is a large area with comfortable seating,one of which is a double sofa bed. coffee table, TV,CD/ radio. The Logburner is set ready to light (in the winter months) Logs are supplied. In the hall again, a door leads into the downstairs double bedroom and ensuite shower and toilet. A large cupboard houses the washing machine and tumble drier. Upstairs the master bedroom with comfortable double bed, clothes hanging space. once again you have the incredible view. The third bedroom has 2 single beds and great view. Shared bathroom has a shower and vanity and toilet. The other key gives you access to the communal lounge which has a table tennis table, a small billiard table, library and a large dining room/ lounge area, with basic kitchen for social gatherings. there is also a garage full of bicycles, kayak, tennis racquets, golf clubs and other sports equipment, most items free.
