Xanadu Beach, with plenty of available water sports activities, is the closest beach to downtown Freeport. The small beach is wide and its waters get deep quickly. You'll see lots of vendors on the beach. Hairbraiding is done with fixed prices according to the number of plaits and length of hair (watch out for scalp burn). Locals sell cold sodas and fresh conch salad -- just walk on the beach, past the boundary fence. A good reef is within easy reach for snorkeling.
