Built in 1980, the course is 6,962 yards long from the championship tees, plays to a par 72, and features 19 greens in its 18-hole layout! On hole #3, golfers may choose a tough iron shot across a ravine and into the wind for one green, or a challenging chip shot straight down to a well-trapped green several hundred feet below into the ravine.

| 1 Challenge Dr., Lanai, Hawaii 96763 |
Carved out of the rugged coast, the Challenge at Manele sprawls across ancient lava fields, with 180-degree ocean panoramas from every hole. A theater of color unfolds: red cliffs plunging down to blue sea, green fairways engulfing white sandtraps, and blossoms from fissures in the black lava rock. This was the palette of designer Jack Nicklaus, who shaped the 7,039-yard, par 72 championship course, carefully protecting and preserving the archaeological ruins within its borders.

Maui's Central valley however, known as the Kahului isthmus, rests between two separate volcano mountain ranges. Over tens of thousands of years, as the volcanoes rose, and the sea receded from the Isthmus, sand dunes formed where The Dunes at Maui Lani is today. Settlers over the past two centuries cultivated much of the land, but the site where The Dunes lies was mostly left untouched. It is one of the few spots in Hawaii where true dunes exist.
