Appalachian National Scenic Trail - TN

The Appalachian Trail is a 2,175-mile long public footpath. Conceived in 1921 and completed in 1937, private citizens built the trail and thousands like you each year volunteer to maintain its footprint. From Maine's Mount Katahdin and Georgia's Springer Mountain, this footpath traverses scenic, wooded, pastoral, wild and culturally resonant lands through 14 of the eastern United States.

Nestled among the trees on the Cumberland Plateau, Fairfield Glade Community Club boasts not one but five championship golf courses. Druid Hills, the first golf course here at Fairfield Glade, was opened for play in 1970. The latest addition to the golf courses was Stonehenge Golf Club in January 2008. Each of the golf courses have full service pro shops, driving range, practice putting green, and food & beverage services.

Knoxville Municipal Golf Course

Knoxville Municipal Golf Course - located in Knoxville, Tennessee - is known for its scenic views and for the challenging golfing experience for players of all abilities. The course was built by the Robert's Family and crafted by architect D.J. Devictor back in 1984. The landscape includes rolling hills, running streams and maybe if you are lucky some natural wildlife. The Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens are sure to help you enjoy the 6,413 yards of golf. Recently we have made some course improvements - 8 newly rebuilt tee boxes with another 7 to 8 to be rebuilt. We also have added new Junior Tees.

Obed Wild & Scenic River

The Obed Wild and Scenic River looks much the same today as it did when the first white settlers strolled its banks in the late 1700s. While meagerly populated due to poor farming soil, the river was a hospitable fishing and hunting area for trappers and pioneers. Today, the Obed stretches along the Cumberland Plateau and offers visitors a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities.

River Islands Golf Club

Featuring a true, links style, Arthur Hills design and breathtaking tee views, River Islands has been a favorite of East Tennesseans since it opened in 1991. The course covers over 7,000 yards and takes you over sweeping knolls, into lush valleys, below sharp bluffs, and across a flowing river dotted with islands. With water on 9-holes and beautiful Zoysia fairways, River Islands offers a challenging yet beautiful experience. The course travels along the edge of the French Broad River with three islands in the middle of the river serving as focal points of the course. The championship layout and manicured conditions make River Islands a consistently superb playing experience.

Sparta Golf & Country Club

The 9-hole "Sparta" course at the Sparta Golf & Country Club facility in Sparta, Tennessee features 2,759 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 35 . The course rating is 33.3 and it has a slope rating of 112. Sparta golf course opened in 1959. Wayne Miller manages the course as the President/General Manager.

Stonehenge Golf Club

Architect Joe Lee has taken a pristine tract of land in the rolling and wooded Cumberland Plateau and made it his personal canvas for the masterpiece that is Stonehenge. The course gets its name from walls of native stone found throughout the 6,549 yard, par 72 layout. Natural rock outcroppings come into play on several holes, with a 15 foot layered stone retaining wall running along the left and rear of the signature downhill par 3, 14th hole. Stonehenge Golf Club is proud to feature bent grass tees, greens and fairways for prime playing conditions.

Named one of Golf Digest's Best Places To Play, Three Ridges was designed by Ault, Clark and Associates and features smooth Bentgrass greens, Bermuda tees and fairways, and 63 strategically placed bunkers. Three Ridges hosts numerous charitable and corporate events including the Knox County Amateur Championship.

Whittle Springs Golf Course

Whittle Springs Golf Course - located in Knoxville, Tennessee - is Knoxville's first public golf course. The course has undergone many incarnations over its storied 75-plus year history, with Whittle Springs offering a fun and enjoyable golfing experience for everyone. Whether you are playing from the par 71, 4,781-yard front tees to the par 70, 5,729-yard back tees, the classic design has small bent grass greens that vary in undulation, and sloping Bermuda fairways. During the course's illustrious past, Whittle Springs was part of a well-known resort which included a grand hotel and swimming pool. The course at this time was known to host various events which included greats of the game like Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Dow Finsterwald. Whittle Springs has hosted the Knoxville City Amateur Championship since the 1930's and still continues to host this prestigious event.
